New “porch”!
– FRAN & STEVE –
Talk to us a bit about community, about yourselves, and about PorchFest, please…
Saw the ad in the paper last year. It’s in my neighborhood and sounded like fun, so we went. It was indeed fun!!
We have lived in the WC neighborhood for 40 years, raised our kids here, go to church here, and love living here.
Porches were in close proximity so we could walk or bike. There was a great atmosphere and very good music.
Community is knowing the people around you, in your immediate neighborhood for sure and in your city as well. It does not happen automatically; it does need to be built but it is not hard to build. It starts with people wanting to know each other; coming together, sharing stories, spending time together, helping each other and becoming friends.
It’s pretty simple: get a map and follow it! Bikes make travel between porches easier.
We want people to come to the West Central neighborhood and see how great it is. I want to change the negative image it has. Kendall Yards has the new and West Central has the historic old. I want the folks that come to my fabulous 111 year old porch to have a great experience!
I am a “kid person” so I will have lots of activities for kids and families. I hope to have cider and popcorn and apples for the attendees. I plan to make my porch very festive.
